HS2K Released by the Child and Family Data Archive!

The Child and Family Data Archive (CFData) is pleased to announce the release of data from Understanding Children’s Transitions from Head Start to Kindergarten (HS2K) (ICPSR 38527).

HS2K was designed to better understand how to improve children’s transitions from Head Start programs to elementary schools. Central to this project was a systems approach that recognizes that effective transitions require intentional engagement from both the sending programs (Head Start) and the receiving programs (elementary schools).

This qualitative dataset includes transcripts from interviews with classroom teachers in Head Start and kindergarten, Head Start center directors and elementary school principals, Head Start program directors and managers, K-12 district administrators, and kindergarten parents/caregivers. They also include focus group transcripts with Head Start parents/caregivers. These data aim to address research questions regarding perspectives, strategies and practices, policies, and professional supports across multiple levels within the Head Start and K-12 systems and the perceived key short- and long-term outcomes of these strategies.

Access to these data require an application. For more information or for assistance with accessing the data, please contact us at CFData-help@umich.edu.
