FACES 2014 Contextual Variables Data File Released by the Child and Family Data Archive!

The Child and Family Data Archive (CFData) is pleased to announce the release of the Head Start Family and Child Experiences Survey (FACES 2014) Contextual Variables Data File (ICPSR 38861).

The Head Start Family and Child Experiences Survey (FACES) provides national information about Head Start programs and participants. Over the years, FACES data users have requested geographic information about these data, but specific geographic information cannot be shared due to disclosure risk. To better meet the needs of data users, ACF funded Mathematica to create the FACES 2014 Contextual Variables data file to add community-level FACES 2014 data without increasing the risk of disclosure. This data file includes population and household characteristic variables at the census block group or tract levels to provide context for Head Start center communities.

The FACES 2014 Contextual Variables data file is intended to be used with the other FACES 2014 data files. In conjunction with the other FACES 2014 data, these data could be used to, for example, 1) describe the characteristics of neighborhoods where children attend Head Start, 2) describe how children’s experiences or Head Start quality differ by neighborhood characteristics, or 3) explore associations among neighborhoods, Head Start experiences, and child and family well-being.

Access to these data require an application. For more information or for assistance with accessing the data, please contact us at CFData-help@umich.edu.

We encourage you to subscribe to the Child and Family Data Archive listserv mailing list or email us directly at CFData-help@umich.edu to receive our e-newsletter and more announcements.
